Make sure you send us your photos by the 31st October 2017.
Winners will be announced in December 2017. Wishing you the best of luck! Molly Gervin, a sixth year student, very generously shared her insights into the need for self care to ensure positive mental health. It was a very informative and engaging talk.
On 12th October our TY year group attended the Just One Life Seminar in the Odeon Cinema organised by Newbridge Rotary Club. A member of the Rotary Club introduced the talks by members of the Fire Service, Garda and Naas Hospital.
John from the Fire Service, talked about his experience with car crashes and the tools he uses on a daily basis. The community Garda showed us statistics relating to car crashes and spoke about the need to adhere to the rules of the road. The A & E Consultant spoke about the many horrific situations he has had to deal with. He used a dummy named 'Jimmy' to demonstrate the impact of a car crash on our bodies. Throughout the talk we were shown quite graphic videos and images of vehicle collisions. As a group we believe that it was necessary to have that level of graphic content in order for us to be aware of the dangers posed by misuse of vehicles. As one of our students said 'It was very eye opening', an opinion shared by us all. Overall the experience was very beneficial for everyone as it made us more cautious. we are coming to the age where we will have our own vehicle and now we have the knowledge to be safer and drive responsibly. by Jayden Adams, Rachel Fitzgerald, Aaron O'Connor, Cian Fitzpatrick On 11th October we travelled to the RDS for Zeminar, a conference about Well Being and Mental Health. There were many very interesting speakers such as Blindboy, Steven Byrne, Nicole Ryan and Eoghan McDermott. Their topics were mental health, staying safe on line, drug use and its affects, the power of the Irish language.
There were also many exhibition stands promoting various colleges, youth organisations and services. A particularly interesting one was 'Cycle against Suicide'. This event raises awareness about the importance of caring for your mental health in a very positive way. Overall TY students found this event to be very helpful and it was a very valuable experience. by Finn Bolton Dowling, Adam Fanning and Mark Muravyov Our newly formed TY debating team coached by Ms O' Neill argued against the use of GMO's. They performed very well against an experienced Sixth Year team from the Salesian College, Celbridge and were only narrowly beaten. Congratulations and good luck in the next debate which will take place in our library on 25th October against St. Paul's, Monastrevin.
Please find the map of the exhibition and workshop times below.
