The Transition Year Academy is held over three days at DCU running from 9am to 4pm each day. Bank of Ireland will cover lunch and snacks each day. Students are responsible for their own travel arrangements to and from the academy. We ask that students arrive on time each day. We will ensure that students leave at the appointed time every day. Programme Modules and Learning Outcomes Module Learning Objectives Teamwork: To create a high-impact team with a group of diverse people previously unknown to each other. Learn how to deliver under pressure Innovation :To learn how to develop options in order to respond to customer needs Delivering Solutions: Using the lean canvas methodology students will develop a solution to a business problem Business fundamentals: Learn how to build a website or develop an app, basics of market research and business terminology If you are interested in applying for this opportunity please submit a TY application form to Ms Groome by 26th October Application forms must be submitted to Ms Groome by lunchtime Tuesday 3rd October. Please note that the deadline for applications for TY work placement at Riverbank Arts Centre Jan - May 2018 is on Monday 18th September.
Each year Riverbank Arts Centre offers TY students the opportunity to undertake a work placement within the administration of the arts centre, including Box Office and Marketing. We are now accepting applications for Semester two (January – May 2018). Please email a cover letter stating reasons for interest in the arts centre, and days and dates of potential placement, along with a full CV to [email protected] by Monday 18th September. Thanks to our TY students who supported the Hospice Coffee Morning. Tea, Coffee and a selection of beautiful cakes donated by staff resulted in a very enjoyable morning supporting a very worthwhile cause!
Students enjoyed an interesting and informative day at the School Summit. There were many contributors who spoke on a range of topics. Exhibitons from organisations such as DCU, Coillte, The Peter McVerry Trust and The National Dairy Council were a valuable resource for students wishing to research possible future careers.
Students enjoyed a wonderful day with retreat team Tobar Nua who travelled all the way from Galway to be with us. Student engaged in many activities throughout the day.
Students enjoyed a series of workshops to enhance their personal development. David Nolan (past pupil, owner and founder HPA) delivered a fantastic workshop on the importance of Diet and Fitness. Yvonne Lawlor (owner Complexions Beauty Salon) gave a very enjoyable workshop on personal presentation with emphasis on grooming, skin care, appropriate use of make up, care of clothes and how to tie a tie! Pamela introduced the students to the practice of mindfulness and yoga ( these programmes are continued throughout the year by Ms Carty and Ms Spillane) Emma from HeadStrong gave a valuable presentation on the importance on positive mental health practices. It was a great day enjoyed by all.
