September 2016: The TY Green-Schools Committee consists of 30 students. Our overall aim is to achieve a Green Flag for our school. There is a lot of work involved and seven steps that need to be put in place before we can achieve this status. Instead of trying to change everything at once, we hope that by making small changes we can make a difference in our school. Our goals for this year are as follows:
To increase awareness amongst staff and students of the recycling facilities in the school.
To encourage the whole school to get involved in recycling.
We will be running several campaigns throughout the year and each campaign, where possible, will be linked to a charity. Therefore, by recycling, we are not only benefiting the school itself but also the wider community. The campaigns that we are hoping to run this year are:
Paper recycling
Christmas card recycling
Cans and Bottles recycling
Clothes and Toys recycling
Batteries / Phone recycling
Composting
We also hope to create a Green Space outside the Library for use by the TY classes. Throughout the year, we will also be entering competitions such as the ‘One Good Idea’ programme. We will keep you posted on our progress.
