On Tuesday the 3rd of October, the TY students in 4D had a visit from a speaker called Niall Cronin. Mr. Dowling arranged for the Herald journalist to talk to the class for around 45 minutes. Niall gave the class information about how he got to his career, what life is like with his job and his opinion on it. 4D was very fascinated by Niall’s story and a few of the students asked interesting questions.
Cronin began by telling us about his school life. He said that he wasn’t at the top of his classes back in secondary school. He was doing Pass English and in the end, he got 150 points for his leaving certificate. This is when he told the class that no matter what results you get, you can still find a way to follow your dreams. Niall advanced by explaining that he worked as a mechanic for a few years but he didn’t enjoy his job and so he decided to pursue journalism as he wanted to do it since he was in school. He was told by other journalists that he wouldn’t be able to do it but he ignored them. He is now a journalist working for the Herald. He goes to race days and watches other sports matches in order to write about them and earn his wages. He gets opportunities to travel to different countries around the world to write an article about the matches. The talk that he gave the class was very inspiring for people who aspire to pursue journalism and it was also very inspiring to everyone as it shows how far you can go if you put your mind to it. All of the students enjoyed listening to what Niall Cronin had to say and they found it very beneficial. by Jayden Adams Comments are closed.
